Stacking stools

Maple, Cork, & Fabric; 14" x 14" x 18h"

Formally and materially, these represent a culmination of recent design exercises. Both utilize a minimalistic wood frame that has been refined through the use of a custom built jig - eliminating laborious steps from the fabrication process and allowing for quick replication of the form. Materially, the first stool employs a cork veneer that provides a subtle cushion while remaining in-concert with the precise milling of the framework. The second uses a more traditional upholstered cushion, yet is recessed to reveal the jointery of the frame. The cushion is placed upon a crosshatched plywood panel that flexes to create even more cushion to the user. Both are finished in a light white oil.
